The Research and Development Society is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Jamie Urquhart, a founding member of our Strategic Advisory Council.
Jamie brought to the Society the insight, judgement and generosity of spirit that characterised his remarkable career. As a co-founder of Arm, he helped lay the foundations for technology that has transformed computing worldwide, and he continued to support innovation through investment, advice and mentoring across the Cambridge technology community.
We were privileged to have Jamie’s support as we developed our work on industrial strategy, research commercialisation and the future of the UK technology ecosystem. Bold and inspirational in his thinking and ambition, he advocated the notion of Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAGs) and constantly challenged us to be ambitious in what we set out to do. His thoughtful contributions, especially on the importance of semiconductors and the wider innovation landscape, is greatly valued.
On behalf of everyone at the R&D Society, we extend our sincere condolences to Jamie’s family, friends, colleagues and all those who knew and worked with him. We remember him with gratitude and respect.
